Dr Nils-Odd Tønnevold

Nils-Odd TønnevoldNils is a founding partner in Connectum. Prior to founding the firm with Richard in 2002, he had seen the many faces of the financial services industry, among other as financial and strategic adviser to Edinburgh Fund Managers PLC and responsible for their establishment in Norway, as a private client himself and as an adviser to families and institutions in Norway, and many other countries.

Nils is passionate about looking after clients and genuine cares about what matters to them and is eager to make a difference. He is a good listener and is and is eager to understand what clients want their wealth to do for them and helping them get from A to B in the most effective way and ensuring they stay on track. With 25 years of experience as an independent financial and strategic adviser, he is no novice, but knows what to look for and what to avoid.

Despite losing both legs as a result of a hit-and-run accident during his first year at Heriot-Watt University, Nils completed his BA Hons in Business Organisation, on time, among the top ten in his year. He later completed an MBA at Strathclyde Graduate Business School.

In 1996, Nils co-founded Momentum – the Norwegian Limbless Association, with Princess Märtha Louise as its patron, to inspire and support other amputees and their families in overcoming disability. In 2015, he co-founded IC2A, the International Confederation of Amputee Associations and he is known for his involvement with the World Health Organisation and the statements he has presented at the World Health Assembly. He also puts energy into being President of the Watt Club Norway for Norwegian Heriot-Watt Alumni and advising on investments as a member of the Financial Committee of The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics in Brussels.

When he’s not looking after his clients, Nils enjoys classical music and opera in particular, and enjoys staying fit through exercise, cross country skiing, swimming, sailing, shooting and stalking. In recognition of his outstanding achievement within investment management and his philanthropic work helping others to overcome disability he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Finance from Heriot-Watt.
